Royal Crown Derby creates bespoke trophy to Commemorate matches between Derbyshire County Cricket Club and touring national teams

9 July 2014

Royal Crown Derby has donated a bespoke trophy to commemorate matches between Derbyshire County Cricket Club and touring national teams, starting with the current tournament between India and continuing with the visit of Australia in 2015.

The trophy is a unique and bespoke piece of fine bone china, made especially for Derbyshire County Cricket Club. The trophy is hand-made in the traditional ‘Imari’ pattern and stands at a height of 34cm.

Its oak plinth was crafted by Mark Rhodes, carpenter at Chatsworth House. The oak originated from an oak tree off the Chatsworth Estate felled in 1930 and seasoned ready for use.

The trophy will remain on display in the Executive Suite at the 3aaa County Ground in Derby but will be awarded to the winning side at each tourist match.

Sales and Marketing Director for Royal Crown Derby, Christopher Oakes, visited the ground on 1 July, 2014 to present the trophy to Chris Gates, Chairman at DCCC, Indian Captain MS Dhoni and DCCC Club Captain, Wayne Madsen.

Commenting, Christopher Oakes said: ‘Creating this bespoke Royal Crown Derby trophy to commemorate matches at Derbyshire County Cricket Club has been an absolute privilege. The trophy’s traditional ‘Imari’ design enjoyed against the backdrop of such an established sport confirms that the rich heritage of Derby is continuing to progress.’
